In the 1970s it was decided to build an industrial lung in the North-West part of Verona and, in ’78,
the Consorzio allocated out the first lots at
Bassona, an area to the north of the A-road 11 and Brenner motorway intersection and which was called
Zai Due (Agro-industrial Zone 2). It was meant to be an area for the reorganisation and restructuring of industries that were already active in the Verona territory. It had a surface area of
750,000 square metres, which was later enlarged, and in which
71 establishments were to be built. In 1980 there were 13 companies operating at Bassona, currently there are
more than 100. The Bassona Zai Due area has also changed radically over the years. It now covers 1 million square metres. Thanks to the West ring road, it is linked to the A4 and A22 motorways, the Airport and the Quadrante Europa.
120 companies employing 4,000 people are now based there. A further area of about
100,000 square metres is being developed to the south of Zai Due.
