In the late 1960s an area of 400 hectares was allocated and named
Quadrante due to its particular geometric shape. The idea, in all its simplicity, is quite disarming: to create, in the areas close to the North-South and East-West motorways, activities and services suitable for the
development of international exchange. In order to improve production and distribution services, in 1977 the Consorzio designed the
Intermodal Centre, thanks to which it is now possible to change the goods vehicle from rail to road and vice versa. The railway area at the Interporto covers a surface area of 800,000 square metres of which 310,000 are currently occupied. The combined transport terminal, managed by Terminal Italia SpA, extends over a surface area of
160,000 square metres and comprises 12 sets of tracks, twelve cranes and two service buildings. A rail link of 12 kilometres of track now moves 50,000 rail wagons per year and, at the Quadrante Europa, the transit motorway system to the Verona-Woergl route and back is already functional, managed and created by Cemat SpA in collaboration with the Italian and Austrian railways.
